Let the adventure start
April / May 2020
It’s mid-April and we are busy cleaning up because the flat handover is imminent. We have decided against subletting to give us more flexibility regarding the duration of our trip and to save us possible trouble. Most of the furniture and our motorbikes have been sold and we can store the remaining things, especially tools and mopeds incl. accessories, with a colleague. Thank you Michi!
Despite intensive preparation, searching for information on various (travel) websites and visiting talks by other travellers, we would not have thought that our improvisation skills would already be put to use at the beginning of the trip. Because unlike what was originally planned, our first stop is not the Europapark, but our garden house. The Corona virus did not stop at our travel plans. Thanks to Corona, even the A1 is exceptionally free of traffic jams, however, all borders are closed.
So we spend the first week with chainsaws, power scythes and having a sauna. Apart from the sauna, the second week continues in the same style, simply paid for and in the garden house of our former flat landlord. Thanks Markus! And André is on duty for two more days as a refrigeration mechanic. Thanks Alessandro!
After that, however, we are drawn out of the canton of Zurich and drive to Mormont in the canton of Jura. Fortunately, the borders to the Damassine country (Pays de la Damassine) are still open and so we find a nice place for our Magirus in the garden of the “Gîte rural La Bergerie“. André did part of his civilian service here and now we also actively help out on the farm. But there is also enough time to discover the Ajoie by mountain bike. Carole’s highlight are the walks with the ponies!
After three weeks we drive on again, otherwise the Magirus will suffer damages caused by non-use and the low fuel prices also encourage us to continue our journey 😉 .We visit relatives and acquaintances in western and central Switzerland and practise (unfortunately with little success) procuring food with fishing rods.
Now we hope that our Russian visa will arrive on the 12th of June as promised. Because of Corona, this has not yet been issued either. In any case, we want to cross the border on the 15th of June, but to where remains to be seen.
